N4T Investigators: Campus Chaos?

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON – Tucson High School students are posting videos of campus fights, fireworks and other dangerous activities on social media.

Somebody started an Instagram account called “schoolscumbags.”

A mother posed as a student and gained access to the private account. She did not want to be identified.

“I was blown away from what I was seeing,” the mother said.

One video shows a student dropping a heavy metal object from an elevated location.

“They're obviously doing things that can actually injure other people and even kill a person,” the mother said.

The Tucson Police Department has the video and is investigating who is behind the account. Officers are looking for possible criminal charges, and Tucson Unified School District officials will look at possible discipline, according to TPD Sgt. Kim Bay.

Most students approached by News Four Tucson were unfamiliar with the account and said they felt safe on campus.

“It's my senior year,” Edgar Penuelas said. “I've never seen a fight, but I think it probably is a problem with certain groups.”

The Tucson Unified School District declined an opportunity for an on-camera interview for this report.
