PHOENIX - Thanks to St. Vincent De Paul, the homeless community was treated to some tenderloin Tuesday night.

Several local steak houses and the nonprofit pulled together in a big way to help feed those in need.

12 News had a chance to speak with some grateful members of the team that made it all possible, like Martin Robles.

"I volunteer here. I'm trying to get on the program and I can work here so I give back to them, like they gave back to me," he said.

Robles said at 51 years old, he's happy to be off drugs and on the clock as a volunteer for others who have experienced the same struggles.

"I got tired of going down and I wanted to go up, straight up, so I started going up and I went up and left everything behind," he said.

Robles, like many others, battled addiction and lost sight of his self-worth. But he said this shelter gave him hope.

"I talked to a lot of people here, like counselors help you. If you've got any problems they'll come and help you out anyway they can," Robles said.

The meal was meant to celebrate the Never Give Up program, headed up by Jimmy Walker and The Celebrity Fight Night Foundation.

"It makes me sad to think a man or women has to eat out of a garbage can and that there are people that go hungry every single night," Walker said.

Chefs like Marc Lupino with Steak 44 said 1,000 steaks were seasoned, sliced and served to those looking for a little something special.

"It's one of the best things that I get to do at charity events and now being able to share it with my son is unbelievable," Lupino said.

The hustle, hard work and heart of all the volunteers helped feed those who are hungry a homemade meal.
