A Sierra Vista man dies in a head-on collision Monday afternoon.

Sierra Vista Police say 74-year-old Kenneth Wray was driving a minivan on the Highway 90 Bypass between Coronado Drive and 7th Street shortly after 12:30 p.m. when he collided with a semitrailer truck.

Witnesses who remained on scene reported seeing a 2005 blue Ford minivan traveling eastbound in a westbound lane, while the witnesses were driving west toward 7th Street. Although some drivers were able to evade the oncoming minivan, the driver of a 2015 International 18-wheel semitrailer truck was not able to get out of the way and chose to come to a complete stop. Witnesses said the minivan continued to travel eastbound in the westbound lane and collided head-on with the semitrailer truck.

After the collision, Sierra Vista Police Department and Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services personnel attempted to provide aid, but Wray died at the scene. The driver of the semitrailer truck remained on scene and was not injured.

The Highway 90 Bypass was closed to westbound traffic from Coronado Drive to 7th Street when police arrived to the scene at about 12:37 p.m. and it remained closed until 2:51 p.m. The collision is still under investigation by the SVPD.

Anyone with information relevant to the collision is asked to contact SVPD Detective John Papatrefon, one of the department's accident reconstruction specialists, at (520) 452-7500.
