Pima County Sheriff's Deputy fatally shoots suspect

A woman suspected of assaulting someone with a two by four was shot and killed by a Pima County Sheriff's Deputy.

PCSO says they received a disturbance call around 4:00pm Saturday in the 4700 block of West Camino Terra.

The call was in reference to a woman was carrying a two by four and had struck someone with it.

Responding deputies found the reported woman inside of a trailer on the property.

Authorities tell us shortly the woman was shot by one deputy shortly after they found her.

The female suspect is identified as 38 year old Amanda Alvarez.

Alvarez was pronounced dead shortly after she arrived at University Medical Center.

The deputies were treated on the scene and released for chemical exposure.

The deputy involved in the shooting is identified as Samuel Herrera.

Herrera has been on duty as a deputy for one and a half years.
