Man hiking 800 miles to raise Alzheimer's awareness

Posted: Updated:

Alzheimer's is a disease that develops over a long period of time.

One man is going on a  long journey to raise money for the disease. It will take six to eight weeks for Blake Gardner to hike 800 miles.

He will travel from the Mexico border through the Grand Canyon to the Utah border.

He's doing it for his family.

Gardner has lost three people to the disease... And his mother and uncle currently have it.

"I thought 'Wow, Alzheimer's has been striking my family pretty regularly here for the past few years.' So I thought it would be a very good opportunity to meld those two together to try and raise money for Alzheimer's and really to raise awareness."

He will camp along the way, and every 10 days he will stop in a town to shower and stay at a hotel.
