Crime Trackers: Man facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated harassment, remains jailed

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - A man who detectives say victimized several women, to the point where they fear for their lives, is now behind bars.

Detectives say Richard Lane claims to be many things that he is not, and when his girlfriends' learn the truth and break up with him, that's when the trouble begins.

Lane appeared in Justice Court before a domestic violence judge. He's charged with three counts of harassment under the domestic violence law.

It was a no bond hearing before Judge Adam Watters.

Pima County Sheriff's Detective Tory Schwartz has been investigating Lane since last fall. He says Lane is a con artist and domestic violence predator who seeks out relationships with people who are vulnerable.

Investigators say Lane portrays himself as a successful businessman who is a veteran and a Medal of Honor recipient. He also tells people he leaves the country for medical treatment, and says he has a business called Trac International.

Detective Schwartz has looked into these claims and says it's all untrue.

He adds, once the women he dates find out the truth and sever the relationship, that’s when he begins stalking, threatening and intimidating them.

Some of the women have taken orders of protection against Lane, but Detective Schwartz says that doesn't bother him. Even after he's been arrested and bonds out he continues to harass them.

That's why the state wants him to remain in jail without bond.

His attorney Dina Dieglio, asked for a continuance and it was granted.

She told Judge Watters she has been unable to meet with him due to his medical condition. She even came to court early to meet with him, but again Lane was having health issues.

Detective Schwartz believes Lane's health only begins to deteriorate when he's facing legal issues.

Everyone will be back in court next week.
