UPDATE: The Tucson Unified School District governing board voted 4-1 for the High School Improvement Initiative and Re-invigoration Project, however, rejected implementing school boundaries Tuesday night.

TUSD officials proposed setting school boundaries for Tucson High, Catalina High, Rincon High and Palo Verde High.

Board members in support of the plan say changes have to be made in order to fix over and under capacity problems. Opponents said the issue would not be resolved by the proposal since TUSD is an open district and students have the option of choosing a school.

The plan moving forward is to implement new school programs and expand Santa Rita High School College and Career Academy.

TUCSON – Thousands of high school students and their families may be affected by a new proposal to distribute students equally among several campuses.

Tucson Unified School District is to present the High School Revitalization Initiative to the governing board meeting Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Duffy Community Center, 5145 E. Fifth St.

The proposal is asking the board to review high school boundaries to increase enrollment and facility utilization.
