Man convicted of 2004 murder gets life sentence

Posted: Updated:

A man who spent more than 10 years on the run will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Francisco Baez Fuentes was sentenced Monday after being found guilty in November 2004 of five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of murder in the first degree. During the 2004 trial, Fuentes fled to Mexico and the trial continued in his absence.

U.S. Marshals were able to track down Fuentes in October in Sinaloa, Mexico, and was extradited to the United States.

Fuentes was 46 when he fatally shot 29-year-old Daniel Pacheco after an argument near Old Vail Road and Old Nogales Highway.
