Pedestrian dies from collision with car early Sunday

Posted: Updated:

A man died early Sunday morning after he was hit by a car while crossing the street.

Tucson police say around 1:30 am Sunday morning they received a call about a pedestrian collision near E. Golf Links and S. Wilmot.

Responding officers found 30 year old Ivan Rodriguez lying unresponsive in the street.

Rodriguez was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries but died from his injuries shortly after arrival.

Authorities say a car was driving down Golf Links when he saw a group of pedestrians just before S. Calle Polar.

The driver began to slow down but Rodriguez attempted to cross the street and was hit after running in front of the car.

Rodriguez was not in a crosswalk when he attempted to cross the street.

The driver remained on scene and showed no sign of impairment.

Authorities say speed doesn't appear to be a factor either.

His family has set up a Go Fund Me account.
