TUCSON - The 64th Annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show kicked off Thursday at the Tucson Convention Center. This is the first and longest running gem show in Tucson. This year’s theme is “Crystals and Crystal Forms.” Regarded as a true gem of the Southwest, retailers and visitors from all over the country come in to experience one of the largest gem and mineral shows in the world.
Jordan Lee Root is a seller with Natural Selection Crystals. Based in Wisconsin, he says the trip is definitely worth it. "There's no other place in the world where you can go and see museum quality specimens everywhere you go. You can go to 50 different shows here, and at every single place you can find something amazing."
Gloria Quigg, the show’s publicity chair also says this event is important for the Tucson economy, since a lot of money is spent in Tucson during this time frame. According to an economic impact study, direct spending in 2014 was about 120 million dollars.
Aside from the hundreds of retail dealers with collections, this event will also have special exhibits, learning areas for kids, and seminars.
The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show runs through Sunday.
