PHOENIX (AP) - A car accident involving a pedestrian has shut down the westbound lanes of the U.S. 60 in Tempe.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the accident occurred late Tuesday afternoon and snarled rush-hour traffic.

There's no immediate word on any injuries.

All westbound traffic is being forced to exit at Mill Avenue.

There's no immediate estimate for when the freeway's westbound lanes will reopen.

The eastbound lanes are not affected.

Authorities are urging drivers to use alternative routes such as the Loop 202.
