PHOENIX- Two people are in critical condition following a rollover crash that happened during a DPS pursuit near 7th Street and Deer Valley Tuesday morning, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

According to DPS, Phoenix Police attempted to stop the vehicle near 19th Avenue and Baseline Road. The driver failed to stop. A police helicopter followed the vehicle onto northbound I-17 where DPS attempted to stop the vehicle near Thunderbird Road. Again, the driver failed to stop.

DPS stopped pursuing the vehicle as it neared Deer Valley Road. The vehicle exited onto Pinnacle Peak Road. A police helicopter continued to follow.

DPS said the vehicle traveled east on Pinnacle Peak Road before "blacking out" the vehicle. The driver shut off the vehicle's lights.

The driver turned south onto 7th Street, but lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll, DPS said.

According to DPS, two of the vehicle's occupants, the male driver and a female passenger, were ejected. They were taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

DPS said a total of six people were in the vehicle ranging in age from teenagers to early 20s. The other four occupants were treated at the scene with minor or no injuries.

The investigation is ongoing and 7th Street remains closed at Deer Valley to Pinnacle Peak with no estimated time for reopening.
