Man convicted of first-degree murder, eluding police

Posted: Updated:

A Pima County jury has found a Tucson man guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of a man in 2016.

Prosecutors will be asking for a sentence of natural life during sentencing later this month.

He was convicted Friday of first-degree murder, armed robbery, theft of means of transportation and fleeing from a law enforcement vehicle.

Ralph Pops Carter was arrested in November of that year for the murder of 53-year-old Juan Martin Cuen-Amavizca.

Cuen had hired Carter to help with a  construction project.

Police say Carter beat and robbed Cuen, then stole his truck, and led Tucson Police on a high-speed chase.
