Arizona man getting death threats after being named 'person of interest' in Vegas shooting

Mesa -

A Mesa man who sold ammunition to Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, spoke out in a press conference today after newly released court documents named him as a person of interest in the case.

Douglas Haig, 55, said he sold 720 rounds of tracer ammunition, which emits a red light when fired, to Paddock in September. Paddock told him he planned to use the rounds for a 'light show'.

In a press conference with his attorney Friday, Haig said that was the only interaction he had with Paddock and never saw him again.

Haig has been charged with manufacturing armor-piercing bullets. The charges were filed on the same day he held the press conference, and the complaint filed against him states his fingerprints were found on unused bullets found in Paddock's hotel room.

"I had no contribution to what Paddock did," Haig said. "I had no way to see into his mind."

Authorities contacted Haig after discovering boxes of ammunition with Haig's name on them in Paddock's hotel room.

Haig said the ammunition he sold to Paddock was not used in the deadly shooting.

"You would have seen red streaks coming from the window [if it had been used]," said Haig.

Haig's name was leaked this week after officials failed to properly redact court documents before releasing them. He said the ordeal has wreaked havoc on his life.

"I’ve had people pounding on my door, death threats, one woman screaming through my door that I should be killed or that I should die," he said.

Haig said he has fully cooperated with the investigation, and wanted to set the record straight publicly in hopes that it will stop the threats on his life.

"I hope today ends that when people realize there was no collusion with Paddock," he said. "That I was not in any way, shape or form associated with the horrible crime he committed."
