Experiments, hands-on demonstrations and even a visit from R2-D2 will be the main events at the Children’s Museum Tucson during the Family SCIFest on Saturday.

Family SCIFest is part of the larger Arizona SciTech Festival, and “encourages kids and parents to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in our daily lives and find the science that is all around us,” according to a news release.

Activities will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the Museum, 200 S. Sixth Ave., as well as in the courtyard and on the lawn along Sixth Avenue. Children will be able to participate in experiments with robotics, astronomy, biology, engineering, mathematics, physics and environmental sciences.

Admission will be free all day, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Museum is also teaming up with about 30 guest groups, including OSIRIS-Rex, Reid Park Zoo, multiple University of Arizona labs and both Boy and Girl Scouts, who will share their love of the STEM field, according to the release.

After the event, the Museum will continue its hands-on STEM-based learning with exhibits such as Investigation Station, Build It!, Techtopia and Bodyology, every day of the week.
