High fire danger to start week

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Gusty winds, low relative humidity and dry vegetation adds up to an elevated wildfire danger today.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for areas south of Tucson. This is in effect today from 9 AM until 5 PM, including the south metro, Tucson Estates, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Sonoita & surrounding communities.

Outdoor burning is not recommended in these areas.

According to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish, east-southeast winds could gust as high as 30-40 MPH through early this evening. Gusty winds decrease after sunset across southern Arizona.

Today's forecast high of 81° comes a degree shy of tying a record set back in 1986. Near record highs remain in the forecast tomorrow afternoon. Temperatures over the next 7 days remain in the upper 70s to low 80s. Abundant sunshine prevails through Super Bowl weekend in the Sonoran Desert.
