Record warm January imminent

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Soaring toward history.

Highs today peak in the low 70s under sunny skies, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Despite the fact that this afternoon will be the coolest day out of the next 7, highs still run 3-5° above average.

Afternoon temps trend up in a big way over the weekend.

A strong dome of high pressure builds off the southern California & Baja coast, supplying temperatures 10-15° above normal starting Sunday. Highs for the first half of next week peak in the upper 70s to low 80s, nearing record levels on Monday and Tuesday.

If the forecast verifies, January 2018 will become the warmest on record for the Old Pueblo.

Along with the warmth comes the winds. A weak storm system near Rocky Point produces easterly gusts in the 20-25 MPH range Sunday through Tuesday.
