Seven wildlife attacks reported in January

Posted: Updated:

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is asking Southern Arizonans to be aware of potentially rabid animals after reporting 7 wildlife attacks in January.

On Monday, AZGFD said a fox attacked someone in a residential neighborhood near the Saguaro National Park. Game and Fish said the person fought back and was not bitten. The location of this animal is unknown.

On Saturday, a fox attacked a person near Winkleman, Ariz. AZGFD said this victim also fought back and was not bitten. Game and Fish said this fox was killed and is now being tested for rabies.

Game and Fish said foxes, bats and skunks are known to carry rabies. Wildlife experts say these animals can also transmit the virus to other species.

AZGFD wants you to report any unusual wildlife behavior by calling (623) 236-7201.

Game and Fish also wants you to avoid contact, keep your pets away and get them vaccinated.
