Man arrested after West Side standoff

TUCSON - Tucson Police arrested a robbery suspect after a standoff on the West Side.

The man was holed up in an apartment on the near Mission and 36th Street.

Police used tear gas after he refused to surrender. 

He opened a window and half climbed out to get fresh air, but still refused to surrender.

Officers entered the apartment and pulled him back inside, then arrested him.

The Tucson Police SWAT team is serving a search warrant to arrest a suspected armed robbery suspect who refuses to come out of his apartment on the west side Thursday morning.

According to police, a man reported he was walking on West Silverlake when he was approached by a man who then robbed him at gunpoint.

Officers were able to identify the suspect and track him down to the Mission Sierra Apartments located at 2410 South Mission Road, near 36th Street.

Right now, the SWAT team is negotiating with the suspect's family to get him to surrender peacefully.

No other details are being made available at this time.
