Resurgence of Winter warmth

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - This afternoon will mark the coolest day out of the next week.

Highs approach the mid to upper 60s, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Temperatures across Southern Arizona today run close to mid-January normals. Afternoon sun gives way to clear skies overnight. Lows bottom out in the mid 40s for Metro Tucson.

The heat is on starting tomorrow.

High pressure strengthens over the Pacific coast, spiking temperatures 10-15° above January normals. The Old Pueblo peaks in the upper 70s Friday through Sunday, with weekend highs closing in on record levels.

Saturday's forecast high of 79° is slated to break the record of 78° set in 2006. Sunday's forecast high comes within three degrees of tying the record set all the way back in 1912.

Early next week features highs in the mid 70s with ample sunshine.
