Signs of a pattern change showing

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - From near record highs to a potential Winter storm.

Before the unsettled pattern settles in, highs this afternoon run 12-14° above average for early January standards. Tucson's forecast high of 78° comes in three degrees shy of tying today's record set back in 1927.

Mostly sunny skies this afternoon gives way to mostly clear skies overnight. Lows should bottom out in the mid 40s. Expect mid to upper 70s for highs this weekend with a mix of sun and clouds.

Models are in better agreement about a cold front moving in from the Pacific Ocean next week. Tuesday afternoon features gusty southwest winds and a slight chance of showers. Rain & mountain snow chances increase late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Exact rainfall & snow totals remain unclear this far out.

Temperatures return to more typical January levels the middle of next week, peaking in the 60s.
