Baby rescued after carjacking

Posted: Updated:

A 9-month-old baby was safely rescued after a carjacking on the Southwest Side on Wednesday.

Police received a call at about 9 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle in the 4600 block of West Calle Dontomas, where two men were reportedly taking license plates off vehicles.

Pima County Sheriff’s deputies chased the suspects Drexel and Calle Santa Cruz.

The men then carjacked a vehicle with the baby inside, according to investigators. During their attempted escape, they rammed a deputy’s patrol cruiser. The chase soon ended.

Antonio Morales Jr., 22, and Fabian Garcia, 25, were both arrested.

They are both facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated robbery, armed robbery, theft of means of transportation and nine counts of aggravated assault.

Garcia is facing an additional charge of unlawful flight from law enforcement for driving the vehicle during the chase.

The baby was unharmed.
