BLM accepting applications for wildland firefighters

The Bureau of Land Management Gila District is accepting applications for wildland firefighters to help during the upcoming summer fire season.

Wildland firefighters are responsible for protecting Arizona communities and public lands but will also fight fires out-of-state on an as-needed basis, according to BLM.

BLM said it will accept applications through Feb. 5, 2018 and will notify recruits in April.

The Gila District is looking to fill 20 positions, according to a news release.

If you would like to be part of the crews you must meet the following requirements, according to BLM:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Pass a pack test and physical
  • Maintain good physical fitness
  • Be able to travel out of state for extended periods of time
  • Have a strong work ethic and contribute to a team-structured environment

Recruits will receive classroom and field training, according to a news release.
