4 Your Health: good news for people suffering with severe joint pain in toes

Posted: Updated:

Tucson- Prior to the development of a new technique people with severe joint pain in their feet had few options.

That was the case for Bradley Payne, but after having the procedure, which involves a synthetic implant, Payne said he got his foot back.

"This has been an ongoing thing for at least five years, and just in the last two years it got really bad."

After years of suffering with unending joint pain in one of his toes Payne believed it was just something he would have to live with. He had even tried a titanium implant that had provided little relief. It was only after he met with Dr. Alan Shih, with Head To Toe Healthcare, that he would find a solution for his torturous toe, a procedure that Dr. Shih said uses a synthetic material to cushion the damaged joint.

"The new synthetic cartilage is basically made out of contact lens material and about the size of a gum drop", said Shih, "It basically provides space in that joint so it can glide smoothly and take away pain."

Besides experiencing immediate relief Payne was amazed at how quickly he recovered from the surgery.

"What surprised me was the lack of bruising, the lack of bleeding after the surgery that I had expected from my earlier surgery", Payne said, "I went from a boot to a Croc to a regular shoes in a period of probably four to six weeks."

But Payne said the best part about having the procedure done is what he doesn't notice anymore.

"I don't think about my feet now, I don't think about what I do, I don't think about what kind of shoe I 'm wearing", said Payne, "It's just my foot, so for me, I couldn't be happier, couldn't be more pleased."
