Near record heat to end 2017

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Chasing history as the year draws to a close.

Residing over the Pacific coast is a strong dome of high pressure, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Due to this feature, daytime highs this afternoon and tomorrow run 15-20° above average. Highs likely peak in the low 80s for Metro Tucson, which is near record levels.

2017 remains a lock to be the warmest year on record for Tucson. If the current forecast comes to fruition, this year's average temp will likely be a full degree above the old record of 72.1°, set in 2016 & 2014.

Temperatures for New Years & much of next week reach the mid to upper 70s. Cloud cover starts to increase for New Year's Day, possibly followed by more sunshine the middle of next week.
