Chasing history to end 2017

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Barring an unexpected pattern shift, 2017 will end up as Tucson's warmest recorded year.

Daytime highs this afternoon through Friday peak in the mid to upper 70s, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. By New Years Weekend, highs drop to the low to mid 70s. Ample sunshine is expected across Southern Arizona.

So far, Tucson's average temperature this year is 73.2°. If the current forecast verifies, this would break the record of 72.1° set last year and in 2014.

Overnight lows the next several nights bottoms out in the low 40s, which is seasonably cool for late December standards.
