7 feet of snow over 3 days buries Alaska town

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Three days. 83 inches of new snow. 52 of those inches in the first 24 hours.

Welcome to Thompson Pass, Alaska.

According to Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang, Thompson Pass received a staggering 10 inches of snow in one hour during a series of storms late last week. This marks one of the most intense snowfall rates ever recorded on the planet.

The heavy snowfall triggered an avalanche, which cut off the town of Valdez from the rest of the state.
