What to expect with tonight's cold temps

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning from 10 PM today until 9 AM tomorrow. This includes Metro Tucson, Santa Cruz, Cochise, Graham, Greenlee & Eastern Pinal Counties.

A cold front cranks up winds this afternoon & drops temps tonight, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. Easterly breezes up to 25 MPH are possible during the daytime hours, decreasing after sunset. Areas north and west of Tucson will have an elevated wildfire danger today.

Scattered showers & snow above 6,000 feet is possible this afternoon near the Arizona/New Mexico border.

Clear skies and light winds provide optimal conditions for cold weather overnight. A widespread Metro Tucson freeze is unlikely tonight, but places like the East Side, Vail, Green Valley and SaddleBrooke should drop at or below the 32° mark.

Lows crash to the 20s for much of Cochise County during the overnight hours, while mountaintops bottom out in the teens.
