Golder Ranch firefighters to help battle California wildfires

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON- The Golder Ranch Fire District sent six firefighters to battle the wildfires in California.

Capt. Dean Stevens, with GRFD, said the crews left Wednesday morning.

He said a typical tour is 14 days, but can be extended up to 21 total days.

“It's difficult, it’s dirty, it can be long,” he said. “You can work up to 24 hours out there.”

Stevens said the crews are prepared, but the time of year poses a unique threat.

“The weather in the evening is going to be different, and fire behaves and reacts differently to weather.”

He added the holidays are near, and it can be tough on both residents in the Los Angeles area and the fire crews.

Stevens said the six GRFD firefighters are specially trained to fight wildfires.

The crews are expected to arrive in Chino, Calif. Thursday afternoon.
