Coolest temps of the season coming soon

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Old Man Winter's finally arriving in Southern Arizona.

A cold front currently over Montana drops toward the state over the next 36 hours, according to 4WARN Meteorologist Jeff Beamish. This feature drops daytime highs from the upper 60s this afternoon to the upper 50s Thursday. Tucson's last daytime high in the 50s was back on February 19th.

Expect gusty east winds up to 25 MPH tomorrow afternoon. Isolated showers can't be ruled out in Eastern Cochise County as well tomorrow.

Overnight lows Thursday and Friday bottom out in the upper 30s for Tucson, marking the coldest lows since late February. Areas east of Tucson are under a Freeze Watch Thursday night as temps drop at or below 32° for several hours.

Warmer weather returns this weekend, courtesy of high pressure near Reno. Temps peak in the low to mid 70s starting Saturday, followed by lows in the low to mid 40s.
