Police: Pickup driver ran red light, died in crash

Posted: Updated:

One man died after he drove his pickup truck through a red light and hit another vehicle Monday on the South Side.

Police said David Verdugo, 29, was driving a maroon 2005 F-150 Pickup Truck east on East Bilby Road near South Nogales Highway. He went into the left-turn lane, continued straight into the intersection against a red light while passing several stopped vehicles.

He collided with white 2011 Jeep Patriot that was northbound on Nogales Highway. The two vehicles slid into an open dirt area on the northeast corner. Verdugo was ejected from his vehicle. He died at the hospital

Police say Verdugo was not wearing a seatbelt, and speed and alcohol are possible factors in the crash.

The two occupants of the Jeep were wearing their seatbelts.
