Money for woman's bills stolen, Glendale PD comes to the rescue

Posted: Updated:

As we get into the holiday season, unfortunately, some of us may encounter a few Grinches.

Just like this Valley woman.

According to a Facebook post from the Glendale Police Department, Officer Bill Downey took a report of a woman who recently had $160 stolen from a Walgreens after taking cash out of an ATM.

The post explains that the money was to be used for her electric bill and phone payment, and after shopping at the store, she inadvertently left the cash on the counter.

As you can guess, the money was stolen, and surveillance video shows a suspect buying beer and leaving with the money.

Understandably upset, the woman explained she’s currently working two jobs to support herself, and would have to work extra shifts to recoup the money.

As Officer Downey was discussing this incident with Officer Wes Zygmont, the two decided they wanted to try and help this woman.

And they did just that, and then some.

Downey and Zygmont, along with other officers and communications staff, raised $1,000 for her.

The department then shared this heartwarming video of several Glendale officers presenting the woman with the money in the same Desert Schools envelope that was stolen.

This Grinch may have tried to ruin the holidays this year, but thanks to these caring officers, one Valley woman’s Christmas just got a little brighter.

Glendale police said Thursday a suspect had been taken into custody.
