TUCSON, Ariz. - A St. Joseph's Hospital security guard is in the hospital after being hit by a car Saturday night.

The security guard was approaching the driver of a suspicious vehicle when the driver stepped on the gas and ran into the security guard, according to Tucson Police Dept. spokesperson Sgt. Pete Dugan.

The car was reportedly circling the parking lot prior to the collision.

After hitting the guard, the driver drove off from the scene. Other hospital security guards chased him until the car crashed into a tree off of Wilmot Rd. near Broadway Blvd.

The driver got out of the car and ran from the crash site.

Nearby Tucson Fire Dept. crews heard the call and helped security guards chase the suspect.

They were able to take down the driver. Tucson Police arrived shortly after.

The security guard was treated at St. Joseph's, then transferred to Banner-University Medical Center for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was also taken to the hospital for unknown injuries.
