Proposition 456, a 13 percent maintenance and operation budget override for the Marana School District, has been declined in the 2017 Tucson preliminary election.

The proposed override would have replaced the current budget override approved in November 2016 at 10 percent. The additional 3 percent would have come from a levy on taxable property with the district, and would have been affective for the seven years.

According to the Pima County School Superintendent voter information pamphlet the proposition provided Pima County School Districts with an addition budget to implement digital classrooms, 1:1 learning environments and increase STEM culture.

The current override goes toward, school aides, counseling, full day kindergarten, libraries, athletics, physical education, fine arts, extra-curricular and elective courses.

The current 10 percent maintenance and operation override will be phased out and reduced to one-third in the fiscal year 2022-23 and 2023-24.
