4 Your Health: another link to Alzheimer's; a strong case for living wills

The importance of living wills for seriously ill patients and their loved ones.

Researchers from the Kaiser Family Foundation surveyed nearly 1,000 adults. Only one-third had their health care wishes in writing and less than half had designated someone else to make medical decisions for them in case they are unable.

But these documents do make a difference. The survey found patients were much more likely to have their treatment wishes honored when they have been written down.

What's bad for the heart is also bad for the brain

A new Johns Hopkins study found middle aged adults with inflammation in the blood had an increased risk of brain shrinkage decades later.

The areas of the brain especially affected by inflammation were those linked to Alzheimer's disease.
