Dodgers outfielder, Sahuaro High grad watches Game 7 with family in Tucson

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - There are no better words in sports than Game 7. The 2017 World Series decider on Wednesday night had a Tucson tie.

2014 Sahuaro High grad Alex Verdugo made his Major League debut with the Dodgers this summer. The center fielder didn't make the playoff roster.

“The goal is to be in LA right now playing in Game 7 of the World Series,” Verdugo said. “It'd be a dream come true. I'm not fortunate to have that, but I'm supporting them from home.”

Verdugo’s mother, Shelly, is living the dream alongside her son. “There are no words to explain how that feels, a surreal feeling,” she said. “You feel like you're watching this and it could be my son there next year or when it's his time.”

Alex and his family were disappointed in the outcome as the Houston Astros beat the Dodgers in Game 7 on the road 5-1. The Sahuaro High grad is optimistic he can make the Dodgers opening day roster next Spring.
