Police release identity of homicide victim, ask public for help

Investigators have released the identity of a West Side homicide victim.

Jose Ramon Lopez, 43, was found fatally shot in a vehicle in the 1000 block of West Colorado Street. 

Police have no suspects in custody.


UPDATE: Tucson police say they have identified the man found dead inside of a vehicle on the west side early Wednesday morning, but will not release his name until next of kin have been notified.

According to police, the victim is in his 40s.

The vehicle he was found inside was reported stolen last week.

Police say residents in the area reported hearing gunshots at around 11:00 p.m.

About an hour later, police responded to the same area after a caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Officers then found the male victim in the passenger seat of the vehicle with gunshot wounds.

Police are asking anyone who heard or saw the vehicle in the area to call 88-CRIME.

TPD's Gang Unit is also on the scene investigating.


TUCSON (KVOA) -- Tucson police are actively investigating a homicide on the west side early Wednesday morning.

The homicide happened near Colorado Street and Columbia Avenue, near West St. Mary's Road and North Grande Avenue.

According to police, a caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the area just after midnight.

When officers arrived they found the vehicle still running with a man dead inside.

No other details are being provided at this time on how the victim died.

Tucson police are asking anyone with information to call 88-CRIME.
