Multiple schools in Amphi school district impacted by vandalism

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - Vandals struck multiple Amphitheater schools during the weekend.

The damage occurred late Saturday and into Sunday. All classes have been held as scheduled.

Fires were set to the shared library between Prince Elementary School, 125 E. Prince Road, and Amphitheater Middle School, 315 E. Prince Road.  The library will be closed for eight weeks, according to the district. The schools have made adjustments for classes that were held in the library. Computer monitors and books were among the items damaged.

Rillito Center, 266 E. Pastime Rd., which serves special needs students, received damage to an outdoor water fountain and windows were broken at the main entrance. Amphitheater High School, 125 W. Yavapai Road, had damage to the security guard booth.

Nearly 40 windows were broken between campuses.

The district hopes to have an estimate on the cost of the damages next week.

The district plans to ask the community for help once it determines the damages. Tucson police are investigating the vandalism.
