High intensity interval training will be next year's most popular fitness trend. That's according to a new survey of more than 4,000 fitness professionals.

High intensity interval training is made up of bursts of vigorous exercise followed by short periods of rest. Despite the popularity of this exercise, though, there is a higher risk of injury. But experts said with proper precautions, interval training is a safe, fun and effective way to work out.

A call for public cord blood banks

The country's leading pediatricians are encouraging the use of public cord blood banks.

Cord blood, which is taken from the placenta of newborns, is used to treat children with fatal diseases. Public cord blood banks serve patients worldwide, while private banks store cord blood just for the donor family's use.

Donation to a public cord blood bank is safe and free, but parents do need to register before their baby's delivery.
