Warning: Plumbing pumpkin guts

Posted: Updated:

Professional plumbers are reminding people about the dangers of pumpkin guts.

That’s right! The sticky pulp and seeds can be a real problem, if not disposed of properly.

After completing a jack-o-lantern project, many Americans are throwing the pumpkin pulp down the garbage disposal and kitchen sink drains. The guts of the pumpkin will dry, creating a hard crust that most liquid drain cleaning chemicals can’t fix. It usually cost homeowners hundreds of dollars to repair.

To prevent a clogging disaster, place the pumpkin on newspaper. You can easily wrap the mess up and throw it into the garbage. Also, rinsing the pulp off your hands in the sink is bad. Go outside and rinse with an outside faucet.

Seeds can also be separated and roasted as a seasonal treat.
