Record heat is on the way

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - After a short break from the 90s this weekend, October heat returns.

Tucson is on track for its 180th 90 degree day of the year on Friday, extending the record amount into yet another afternoon. Finally, a short break from the 90s is in the forecast on Saturday as a system moves by to the north bringing Tucson a high of only 82 degrees to start the weekend.

This little "cool down"  is very short lived, however, with the low 90s already expected to return on Sunday. A strong ridge of high pressure builds overhead into next week with daytime highs approaching record levels for late October.

Monday October 23 forecast high: 96     Record high: 94 (1933)

Tuesday October 24 forecast high: 97     Record high: 96 (1959)
