UofA's Allonzo Trier added to prestigious pre-season list for Jerry West Award

Posted: Updated:

Arizona junior guard Allonzo Trier has even more to look forward to this upcoming season.

Here's more from Arizona Athletics:

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has announced its Jerry West Award Preseason Watch List, and Arizona junior Allonzo Trier has been included as one of 20 players nominated for the award given to the top shooting guard in college basketball. Trier joins USC's De'Anthony Melton as the only Pac-12 players on the list.

Trier capped an impressive sophomore season in 2016-17 by earning a spot on the Pac-12's All-Conference Second Team after leading the Wildcats in scoring at 17.2 points per game. The Seattle native went on to take home the Most Outstanding Player award of the 2017 Pac-12 Tournament as he averaged 20.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 50.0 percent from deep in UA's three wins in three nights in Las Vegas.

The junior is tied with Stanford's Reid Travis as the Pac-12's leading returning scorer for 2017-18 at 172. points per game. His development under head coach Sean Miller shows throughout the stat sheet. Trier upped his scoring, rebounding, assists, free throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage in his sophomore season from his freshman campaign. He set a career high in scoring with 29 points versus UCLA after topping his career mark in rebounding with 12 at UCLA in January. The 12 rebounds against the Bruins were the most by an Arizona guard in the Sean Miller era. After posting 31 assists and 52 turnovers (.01 assist-to-turnover ratio) as a freshman, Trier upped his numbers to 48 assists and 31 turnovers (1.55 assist-to-turnover ratio) in sophomore year.

Trier and the rest of the Arizona Wildcats will open the season with the McDonald's Red-Blue game on Oct. 20 before hosting a pair of home exhibitions versus Eastern New Mexico and Chico State in November.
