Crime Trackers: Viewer identifies burglary suspect

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON - A News 4 Tucson viewer says they know the woman who was breaking into vehicles in Catalina.

It's a Crime Trackers report we told you about in September.

A woman was caught on video surveillance breaking into vehicles in the community north of Tucson.

The viewer saw the story, went to the KVOA app and recognized the suspect. The viewer then found a patrol deputy in Catalina and gave him the information.

Pima County Sheriff's Deputy Cody Gress told News 4 Tucson, detectives found 31-year-old Andrea Williams in the Pima County jail on Oct. 10.  She was there for probation violations, and warrants for drug-related offenses. They then charged her with burglary.

Video surveillance taken in August shows a woman with a bag going through two trucks in front of a Catalina home. Detectives said she found a garage-door opener, opened the garage and stole a bicycle.

In the video, a tattoo on her arm was visible and that's how the viewer identified her.

Detectives said they still need your help. A week before the woman was seen going thru the vehicles, a man also tried to break into the homeowner's car.

The video shows the man opening the door, and then the car's alarm went off. He ran away.

If you have information call 911, 88-CRIME, or report it to police.

Gress said, “We really need the community support and to have somebody feel comfortable enough to see a story on the news through KVOA, to then come up to one of our street level patrol deputies to report it speaks volumes to the level of interaction we have.”

Detectives added they haven’t recovered any of the stolen property.  If you have a story you want to look into call 955-4444 or email investigators@kvoa.com
