Welcome to week 8, as Southern Arizona starts to decide which schools are playoff-bound and which schools still have work to do heading into the final weeks of the season.


GAME OF THE WEEK

Canyon Del Oro 53, Walden Grove 27

Elijah Carey had a great game at running back Canyon Del Oro exploded for more than half-a-hundred in a big win to keep the Dorados playoff hopes alive on their whiteout homecoming.


Salpointe 50, Nogales 0

Salpointe's defense was excellent again as the Lancers blow out Nogales at home on Senior night. Salpointe looks to be full strength with their star running backs playing and ready for a deep run in the 4A playoffs.


Amphi 26, Palo Verde 23

Amphi has won two in a row, both at home. In this one, the Panthers got their first touchdown from 6-foot-6, 295 pound offensive lineman David Watson, who scored from 1 yard out in the "Jumbo package." Watson is committed to play at Arizona next season.


Empire 76, Santa Rita 12

Empire quarterback Alex Verdugo had a big game through the air, connecting with Brandon Walker on two long touchdown passes. Empire puts up a huge total as they try to make the 3A playoffs.


Bisbee 18, Benson 16

Bisbee hopped out to a 12-0 lead on the road, then held on for a big win against Benson.


Flowing Wells 28, Desert View 14

Desert View's offense ended up playing better in the second half of the game as Dylan Allison and co. pick up a victory against the Jaguars.


Mountain View 38, Sahuaro 14

Josemaria Alcala ran and passed for plenty of yards and the Mountain View defense held strong to give the Mountain Lions a strong win.


Pusch Ridge 61, Tanque Verde 0

Pusch Ridge stays undefeated and on a collision course with a shot at the state title after blowing out Tanque Verde at home.

    Tucson Fire responded to an apartment fire, near River Rd and Stone Loop, at the Promontory Apartments, around 8:45 this morning, after neighbors reported seeing smoke and flames from a unit on the second floor.
