Tucson couple forgoes honeymoon to work with Red Cross

Posted: Updated:

A Tucson couple’s honeymoon is taking an unexpected turn, and it's all for a good cause.

Two local journalists, and recent newlyweds, Michel Marizco and Andrea Kelly tell News 4 Tucson they decided to ditch their honeymoon and instead devote their time to train and volunteer with the American Red Cross to help those evacuated during the raging California wildfires.

Marizco grew up in Santa Rosa, Calif., and says he has never seen a fire this bad, where neighborhoods are burned to the ground.

“We wanted to help people,” Kelly said. “This is where Michel's whole family is. When we got married on Saturday they were all there. By Monday morning they were all evacuating so we're just here to do what we can.”

They said they will work the graveyard shift, and that they wouldn't have it any other way.
