Friday Football Fever Wrapup: Week 7

Posted: Updated:

Welcome to Friday Football Fever week 7, where the battles for regional supremacy continue as teams try to fight their way into the playoffs.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Pusch Ridge 44, Sabino 7

Whoa. This was supposed to be a close game. Sabino came in with the reigning Jack in the Box Player of the Week in quarterback Alex Bell and Pusch Ridge shut them down. The Lions defense played exceptionally well against a strong team.

Marana 52, Cholla 6

Trenton Bourget and the Tiger offense put up big numbers again, but the Marana defense held strong and kept Jordan Porter and Cholla to 6.

Ironwood Ridge 50, Buena 15

Noah Pallanes scored a couple of early touchdowns and the Nighthawks pulled away from Buena in the second half after playing close early.

Amphi 24, Douglas 13

The Panthers scored the first 24 points and it was enough to hold on for the team's first win of the season, taking down Douglas at Friedli Field.

Tucson 31, Sunnyside 30 (OT)

This big 6A matchup went to OT, as Tucson improves to 3-4 on the season with an important win over the Blue Devils.

Salpointe 55, Walden Grove 7

Bijan Robinson scored three touchdowns including an impressive 33-yard run with multiple stiff arms. Mario "The Jukebox" Padilla is back on the field after an injury and scored a couple of times as the Lancer offense is back in full force. Salpointe is a legit 4A state title contender.

Cienega 49, Sahuaro 28

The Bobcats put up big offensive numbers again as Jamarye Joiner and Thomas Webb Jr. led Cienega to another win. Cienega is a favorite in 5A and likely the best team in Southern Arizona.

Pueblo 22, Canyon Del Oro 17

Pueblo picked up a huge win at home behind running back Ruben Rivera. The Warriors improve to 5-2 on the season and look to be playoff-bound.

Empire 41, Catalina 14

Alex Verdugo, Wyatt Jeffries and the Empire Ravens put up a big number on offense to take down a solid 5-win team.

Scores from Around Southern Arizona:

Poston Butte 28, Flowing Wells 0

Palo Verde 25, Rio Rico 13

Santa Cruz Valley 54, Bisbee 20

Rincon 56, Santa Rita 8

Tanque Verde 32, Sahuarita 20

Willcox 46, San Manuel 44 F/OT

Mountain View 47, Desert View 11

Catalina Foothills 35, Nogales 10

Dolphins and whales speak in accents. They have “hit” songs. They have names for each other and they might gossip. A new study shows the most social dolphins and whales also have larger, more complex brains. It’s the latest study supporting the idea that big brains evolved to handle the demands of socializing, and not for some other reason. In other words, humans may be so intelligent because we gossip. “What we can say for sure with the dolphins and whales ...
