Thieves target cars and garages in Sahuarita

Posted: Updated:

Thieves targeted cars and garages in Rancho Sahuarita last week, which has one resident surprised.

Police say the thefts break-ins occurred late Thursday, early Friday morning.

Chad Denny, who lives along the 2200 block of North Avenida Mena, was about to hit the road to work when he noticed his garage door partially open.

His car, which he often leaves parked in the driveway, was rummaged through as well.

"My car was broken into, glove compartments were all open, the garage door opener was gone,” Denny said.

His wife’s car, in the garage, was also broken into but the burglars took nothing.

“The neighbors weren’t so lucky,” Denny said.

According to police officials, the thieves targeted at least four houses, stealing everything from motorcycles to mountain bikes to shop tools.

One of the motorbikes has been recovered.

Lt. Sam Almadova urges people to lock their car doors, hide valuables and ensure the garage door openers are out of sight.

"You can have a garage opener that is on your key chain. It's like a little key fob and you can open it up. You have the keys with you all the time. That will prevent people from getting into your garage,” Almadova said.

Since January, 27 car larcenies have been reported, according to Almadova.

Call 911 and Sahuarita Police if you have any information related to this case.
