Victim identified following deadly midtown hit and run

The pedestrian that died following being struck Monday night on Campbell Avenue near Mitchell has been identified, according to Tucson Police Dept. spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Bay.

According to TPD, 70-year old Mario Cortes was killed when a car hit him and then fled the scene

Investigators have determined that he was on the southwest corner of Campbell Ave. and  Mitchell St. and was crossing eastbound across Campbell Ave., Bay said. "As he traversed the unmarked crosswalk he was struck by a dark vehicle that was northbound on Campbell Ave."

The driver of the vehicle fled northbound on Campbell and remains outstanding at this time, Bay added. Police are continuing to search for a vehicle with front-end damage.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911 or 88-CRIME.

A pedestrian was seriously injured after being struck by a car on Campbell at Mitchell, the driver then fled the scene.

Campbell Avenue from Glenn Street to Copper Street is closed for the next few hours, according to TPD.

Police are searching for a small black sedan with front end damage.
