Fire burning at Southern Arizona mine

GREEN VALLEY -

A fire is burning at Freeport McMoran’s Sierrita Mine, located at 6200 W. Duval Mine Road in Green Valley, on Monday afternoon, according to a mine spokesman.

The fire began Monday morning at approximately 11 a.m. in a secondary crusher unit, according to Eric Kinneberg, Director of External Communications for Freeport-McMoran. It was extinguished at about 4 p.m. 

No injuries have been reported, Kinneberg added. The cause of the fire will be investigated.
