A garage fire forced a mother of three children from her home early Sunday morning.

Tucson Fire Dept. says multiple calls were made to 911 around 12:55am about smoke and flames rising from a home near W. Rue De La Montagne.

The woman told authorities she heard a loud pop come from the garage and went to check it out.

As she opened the door to the garage she saw the fire and immediately exited the home.

The first fire crew on scene found the garage in flames and went through the house searching for other residents.

After working to control the fire in the garage crews found the fire had spread to the attic of the home.

Authorities say 11 units and 27 fire fighters were able to control the fire within 22 minutes of their arrival.

The fire originated from the car parked in the garage and the cause is under investigation, we're told.

The woman's three children weren't home at the time of the fire.

Both the firefighters and the resident were un-injured.

The resident's two pet birds did not survive the fire.

The Red Cross and friends of the family are helping the woman and her children.
